PPSO Young Marines Participate in the 1st Louisiana Regimental Winter Encampment

Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr is proud to report that on December 27th through December 30th, 2019, the PPSO Young Marines joined other Young Marine units from neighboring parishes at the 1st Louisiana Regimental Winter Encampment held at Bayou Segnette in Westwego, LA. There were approximately 80 Young Marines consisting of young men and women from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines, East Baton Rouge Young Marines, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines. For three days, the Young Marines learned various skills such as marksmanship, archery, map and compass, leadership and team building skills.

At the beginning of the encampment, the event was filled with strangers trying to figure each other out, but by the end they all became friends with a common goal; learn something new and have fun. The event was a complete success full of anticipation for the next winter encampment, which will be located at the Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA.

The Young Marines earned the Regimental Encampment Ribbon award with silver oak leaf devise for this endeavor, which can be worn on their uniform.

The attendees from the PPSO Young Marines program were Jesse Crawford, Amaree Ether, Daytione Dyson, Garione Dyson, Jaylynne Ronquille, Gage Scarabin and Vincent Barthelemy, who were accompanied by the Unit Commander, Deputy Norman Phillips, and Mrs. Dianna Seiffert, Adjutant.

The PPSO Young Marines are now accepting applications for the upcoming "Foxtrot" class scheduled to commence in March of 2020.
