Marine Corps League New Orleans Donates to the PPSO Young Marines Program

Thanks to a generous donation by the Marine Corps League New Orleans, Paul E. Boyd Detachment #579, the PPSO Young Marines Program will be upgrading their uniforms from the old woodland style camouflage to the digital camouflage uniform. On the morning of October 27, 2025, Marine Corps League New Orleans Commandant , Matthew Voss, and Sergeant-at-Arms, Charlie Firneno, presented Sheriff Jerry Turlich with the monetary donation at the PPSO Administration Building in Belle Chasse.
Matthew Voss noted, "the Young Marines program was founded by the Marine Corps League. So, it is our duty to make sure the Young Marines programs in our area have what they need to continue to strive forward."
Accompanied by Captain Mark Sauer and the PPSO Young Marines Unit Commander, Sergeant Norman Phillips (both former U.S. Marines), Sheriff Turlich added, "we appreciate the continued support from the Marine Corps League. Their dedication to the development of the youth of Plaquemines Parish is just one reason why we maintain a high quality of life in our community."
The Marine Corps League Brass City Detachment in Waterbury, Connecticut founded the Young Marines Program in 1959 and the program was officially chartered on October 17, 1965 making this the 65th anniversary of the program.
