Citizen Police Academy
The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to create better communications between citizens and the police through education. Graduates of the Academy will be a well-informed group of citizens, who possess greater insight into police practices and community service. Everyone benefits from enhancing citizen understanding of the role and function of their Sheriff's Office.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course of instruction consists of one 2-hour class per week, for 10 weeks. The classes are taught by officers of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and elected officials, and cover the various divisions of the sheriff's office.

2 Uniform Patrol
3 Homeland Security
4 Narcotics - K-9 Patrol
5 Crime Prevention - Reserve Division - SRT
6 Use of Force
7 Detention Center
8 Detective Bureau Investigations
9 District Attorney's Office
10 Court Room Procedures
11 Graduation
Some of the classes will include a field trip, and some classes will include interactive role-playing.
There will also be an optional range day, where participants will learn gun nomenclature, gun safety, and will then shoot on the sheriff's office range.
Additionally, each participant will go on a 4-hour ride-a-long, with an officer in a marked police car.
