Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association

Mission Statement

To provide the citizens of Plaquemines Parish with a better understanding of the dedication and integrity of their Sheriff’s Office.

Objectives

The Plaquemines Parish Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association was formed as a civic group to support the Sheriff’s Department in the area of community understanding, regarding the legal aspects of what a law enforcement agency can do and cannot do when enforcing local, state, and federal laws.  Through education, hands-on participation, as well as, forums with various elected officials, (Council, Parish Judges and District Attorney), a strong effort is made to heighten awareness and to foster an excellent relationship between the citizens of this community and its Sheriff’s Department.

Furthermore, the Plaquemines Parish Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association was formed to support the Department in many community activities.  The association is opened to all citizens of the parish who want to give back their time and talents for making this parish a better place in which to live and bring up their children.   As you know, law enforcement agencies today are called upon to do many things in the community and in many cases are understaffed to handle the request and demands of the citizens.  So the Alumni Association supports them in as many requests as possible.

How do we, as alumni members, lessen the burden of the department?

The Alumni Association acts as an unofficial public relations group within the parish to further the community based policing programs and, in general, to promote a positive image of law enforcement and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Members are recruited from graduates of the Plaquemines Parish Citizens Police Academy.

Our Alumni Association currently has nearly 130 members and growing!!
