Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr.

Leadership - Pride - Professionalism

Gerald "Jerry" Turlich, Jr. is Plaquemines Parish through-and-through. His Christian values were formed at an early age at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In 1987, Sheriff Turlich graduated from Belle Chasse High School where he honed his skills as a team leader and All-District, All-Metro athlete in baseball. Following a stint at Delgado, he set his sights on defending law and order.

In January 1990, Sheriff Turlich joined the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer in the Pointe à la Hache prison. After attending Louisiana State University Basic Training Academy, he was post certified in September. Serving under three administrations, Sheriff Turlich's rise through the ranks went from patrol officer to sergeant to lieutenant to captain. In the aftermath of 9/11 when a multi-agency task force was formed, he was selected to represent the PPSO on the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. There he earned “top secret” security clearance in a position he held for 10 years.  At a time when our homeland was threatened, Sheriff Turlichprotected lives and our local refineries, vetting threats both foreign and domestic. In 2013, he returned to the Sheriff’s Office as Deputy Chief where he worked to unite a divided department.

For 25 years, Jerry has been proud to be part of the crime-fighting team that has helped keep Plaquemines safe.
