Chaplains

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office (PPSO) Chaplaincy Program was established in June of 2017 in order to provide spiritual guidance and counseling to all members of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Officer and the residents of Plaquemines Parish.  They have volunteered over 750 hours in the past two years serving our Parish and PPSO employees.  They are often used to provide guidance, counseling, and comfort in times of crisis. They have provided grief counseling to students and staff at local schools during times of crisis. They have provided support for families during suicides and other tragic events.  They even traveled to Houston, Texas to provide assistance to Hurricane Harvey victims.  They have been incorporated in the initial training of all PPSO new hires teaching subjects such as officer suicide awareness and how to deal with life stresses.  PPSO Chaplains have also been called upon to teach weekly spiritual classes at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center (PPDC) for both men and women inmates.  Over the past two years, they have organized a gospel choir to sing to the inmates at the PPDC during the Christmas holidays.  They are often called upon to provide a word of prayer during Plaquemines Parish and PPSO events. The PPSO Chaplain Program has raised over $2,500 that has provided religious study materials, supported members in our Community and provided training for our Chaplains.  The Chaplains are volunteers that are reactive responders on call or proactively involved for all of Plaquemines Parish.

If you are in need of assistance from one of our PPSO Chaplains, would like to be a part of the program or would like to donate to the PPSO Chaplain Program don’t hesitate to contact us.
