PPSO Arrest Belle Chasse Man for Simple Burglary of the Belle Chasse Post Office

Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announces the arrest of Travis Washington, 28, of Belle Chasse with the felony charge of Simple Burglary of the Belle Chasse Post Office that occurred on June 15, 2021.

On the morning of June 16, 2021, investigators with the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) and the United States Postal Inspection Service responded to the Belle Chasse Post Office located at 8710 Highway 23 after postal service employees discovered significant damage throughout the building including areas not accessible to the general public. After collecting forensic evidence and reviewing security surveillance videos, PPSO detectives were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect involved in the incident. With the assistance of the PPSO District 1 Patrol Division, Washington was positively identified as the suspect of the incident and an arrest warrant was obtained from the 25th Judicial District Court.

"This is another example of effective interdepartmental collaboration that resulted in an expeditious resolution," said Sheriff Turlich. "Thank you to District 1 Patrol, Investigations Bureau and Crime Scene Unit for your hard work solving this burglary of a local federal building."

Washington was arrested on July 20, 2021, and is currently being held at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
