Thursday, November 4, 2021, 1 p.m.

Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. is excited to announce that the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) has established a "Safe Exchange Zone" in Belle Chasse ahead of the 2021 Holiday Season.

With the increased popularity of local purchases on websites such as Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, Sheriff Turlich feels it is imperative to have a safe and secure environment available to exchange items within Plaquemines Parish especially as we enter the 2021 Holiday Season. A safe exchange zone is now available at the PPSO Administration Building located at 8022 Highway 23 in Belle Chasse. The location is well-lit and under 24-hour surveillance providing buyers and sellers a comfortable environment to conduct legal transactions.

"These safe exchange zones will give our residents another tool to use in order to safely exchange items after buying and/or selling online, a comfortable place for co-parents to meet for custody exchanges or even a safe place to wait for responding deputies," said Sheriff Turlich. "The safety of our residents is paramount and we will continue to adapt and provide new ways to accomplish this."

Furthermore, Sheriff Turlich advises additional safe exchange zone locations will be completed in Port Sulphur and on the Eastbank of Plaquemines Parish within the coming weeks.
