Belle Chasse - On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the Empire South Pass Tarpon Rodeo made two monetary donations in support of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) Marine Division along with their continual involvement with the Special Olympics in Plaquemines Parish.

Jasmine Creppel Short, member of the Empire South Pass Tarpon Rodeo Committee, presented Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. with the monetary donations at the PPSO Administration building in Belle Chasse. A $5,000 donation is dedicated to the PPSO Marine Division to assist with maintenance costs to assure the water vessels remain in good condition in order to patrol the numerous waterways throughout Plaquemines Parish while an additional $3,000 was dedicated to Special Olympics events held in our community. With the exception of cancelled events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheriff Turlich and PPSO have participated in the Plaquemines Parish Special Olympics events and the Law Enforcement Torch Run every year since taking office in 2016.

"As one of my passions, we look forward to participating in future Special Olympics events that benefit members of our community with intellectual and physical disabilities," said Sheriff Turlich. "Thank you to everyone associated with the Empire South Pass Tarpon Rodeo for their continued dedication and support in maintaining a high quality of life in Plaquemines Parish."

The Empire South Pass Tarpon is held the first weekend in August at the Empire Boat Harbor. All proceeds from the rodeo are donated to non-profit organizations in Plaquemines Parish.
