Air Show 2022 Traffic Advisories

OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

Tuesday, March 15, 2022, 1 p.m.

Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich Jr and PPSO are excited to have the New Orleans Air Show featuring the US Navy Blue Angels back in Belle Chasse at the Naval Air Station - Joint Reserve Base (NAS-JRB) on March 19 & 20.

Due to this event, expect an increase in traffic with potential delays in the Belle Chasse area this weekend. Parking for the general public will be directed to the rear gate of NAS-JRB located off Barriere Road in Belle Chasse. Parking for the general public will NOT be allowed to enter the front gate of NAS-JRB; parking through the front gate will be designated for military personnel and VIP access only. When traveling south on Highway 23 approaching the front gate of NAS-JRB, the right lane will be designated for entry into the main gate at Russell Drive while the left lane will be designated for all traffic traveling south of the Russell Drive.

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC ADVISORY - At approximately 8 a.m., Barriere Road will be designated as a ONE-WAY from Highway 23 to the rear gate of NAS-JRB until the parking area has reached full capacity. If necessary, additional parking for the general public will be located on Highway 23 south of the main gate of NAS-JRB across from Chevron Oronite refinery.

The ONE-WAY traffic on Barriere Road will then transition from the rear gate of NAS-JRB to Highway 23 until the event traffic has been alleviated. While the one-way traffic is enforced, all traffic on side streets connected to Barriere Road, including Good News Avenue, will be CLOSED in an effort to expedite the traffic related to the air show.

While Barriere Road is designated for air show traffic, residential traffic entering and exiting the "Greek" streets adjacent to Barriere Road will utilize Dr. Bowen Street to the Covert Road/Epsilon Street crossover. Vehicular traffic from L Street to Lartigue Street between Highway 23 and Good News Avenue will be restricted to residential traffic only.

After the conclusion of the air show, the NAS-JRB exit located at South Concord Road (just south of main entrance/exit at Russell Drive) will be opened to help alleviate traffic delays along with an agreement with the Belle Chasse Bridge to remain in the down position from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

PPSO personnel will be active in the Belle Chasse area in an effort to minimize traffic delays before and after the air show.
