PPSO Arrest Buras Man for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm after Shooting in Buras

Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announces the arrest of Tommy Tran, 49, of Buras, Louisiana with four felony charges that includes two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, one count of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm and one count of Aggravated Criminal Damage.

On the morning of May 24, 2022, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the area of Buras River Road and East Collins Drive after gunshots were heard in the area. Subsequent investigation determined Tran discharged multiple rounds from a firearm at a vehicle occupied by two individuals. Despite Tran striking the vehicle shattering the rear window, no injuries were sustained during this incident. Tran was apprehended without incident and the firearm was successfully recovered.

"We are fortunate the result of this shooting wasn't a tragedy," said Sheriff Turlich. "As a society, we must use common sense and resolve our issues without turning to violence. Thank you to the responding deputies for your quick response and immediate apprehension."

Tommy Tran is currently confined at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center awaiting to appear in magistrate court.
