Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. would like to provide an update of the incident that seriously injured a Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) Deputy that occurred on morning of Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in Belle Chasse.

After multiple surgeries including a 15-hour operation yesterday, the injured PPSO Deputy is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a local hospital. With a long recovery ahead, please continue to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

The suspect in custody responsible for the deputy's injuries, Reginald Hamilton, 18, of New Orleans, has been discharged from a local hospital, transported to the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center (PPDC) by the Louisiana State Police and booked by the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police (charges are as followed: Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation of an Off-Road Vehicle and Vehicle Not Equipped for Roadways). Hamilton is currently confined at the PPDC pending a magistrate hearing before the 25th Judicial District Court.
