Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announces the arrest of David Jefferson, 46, of Gretna with five felony charges that includes one count of Theft and four counts of Home Improvement Fraud relative to Hurricane Ida recovery efforts.

After investigating five separate incidents involving Jefferson's company, Re-Nu-It Restoration, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) discovered Jefferson did not begin and/or complete contracted restoration jobs after receiving funds from the victims to repair their damaged residences as a result of Hurricane Ida. PPSO investigators determined Jefferson defrauded the five victims for an amount of approximately $32,000. Records revealed Jefferson was not a licensed contractor in the State of Louisiana according to the Louisiana State Licensing Board.

"Hurricane Ida was a devastating storm in Plaquemines Parish with many families experiencing a total loss," said Sheriff Turlich. "Our community has been working hard to repair the damage to regain some normalcy, but Jefferson decided to take advantage of this unfortunate situation and that is not acceptable."

David Jefferson is currently confined at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing in magistrate court. If you have additional information or wish to report a complaint, contact the PPSO Dispatch Center at 504-564-2525.
