Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. is proud to announce that significant upgrades to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) Traffic and Marine Divisions were made after purchasing communication and radar equipment with a donation by Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery.

In May of 2019, Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery Manager Neil Faulkner and Public Affairs Representative Tristan Babin presented a check for $70,000 to Sheriff Turlich at the PPSO Administration Building in Belle Chasse. Sheriff Turlich utilized the generous donation to enhance the technological capabilities of the Traffic Division by purchasing helmet communication devices that allows deputies to operate their assigned motorcycles and communicate while maintaining safety and reducing distractions. A new Lowrance GPS radar system and telecommunication radio equipment was also purchased and installed onto PPSO Marine Division vessels.

"We've made tremendous progress managing the budget over the past three years that has put us in a position to upgrade equipment throughout the sheriff's office, but we still have a lot to accomplish," said Sheriff Turlich. "When a company like Phillips 66 makes a sizable donation like this, it allows us to expedite these purchases which ultimately helps us perform our duties more efficiently. For this, I am grateful to Neil and Phillips 66 for their contribution and assistance with maintaining the quality of life of Plaquemines Parish."

Built in 1971, Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery is located on the Mississippi River in Belle Chasse, 25 miles south of New Orleans. Alliance processes mainly light, low-sulfur crude oil and receives domestic crude oil from the Gulf of Mexico by pipeline and U.S. tight oil by marine transport. The refinery can also receive foreign crude oil by pipeline connected to the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port. Alliance has a workforce of over 850 employees including on-site contractors.
