Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announces the arrest of Jerry Manuel, 18, of Port Sulphur with the felony charges of Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Numbers and four counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

On October 29, 2019, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) District II Patrol Division and Investigations Bureau responded to a Burglary of a Residence in the Port Sulphur area. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that seven firearms were stolen from the residence. Eight hours later, investigators were able to develop Manuel as a suspect after discovering he was concealing firearms matching the description of the stolen property. Detectives secured a search warrant of Manuel's residence, which was in close proximity of the scene of the crime. The executed search warrant yielded the recovery of four of the seven stolen firearms along with another firearm with the serial numbers intentional defiled in order to avoid identification.

"Because of the hard work and vigilance displayed by the investigators and deputies involved, we were able to recover four stolen firearms and make an arrest within 24 hours of the crime being reported," said Sheriff Turlich. "I urge all residents to use every precaution to safely secure your firearms to prevent an incident like this."

Jerry Manuel is currently confined at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center in Davant with a $115,000 bond.
