On February 6, 2020, Chevron Oronite Oak Point Plant in Belle Chasse made a monetary donation to support and sponsor the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) Seniors And Law-Enforcement Together (SALT) Program. The substantial $12,500 contribution will support seasonal events, conferences and educational seminars.

Peggy Ramey, Chevron Oronite's Corporate Affairs Advisor, presented Sheriff Gerald "Jerry" Turlich Jr., Program Director Glenda Jenkins and members of the SALT Council with the donation at the PPSO Administration Building in Belle Chasse.

"Chevron Oronite is proud to support the Sheriff's Office through the efforts of the SALT program to ensure the safety and well-being of Plaquemines Parish senior citizens," said Brett Cooley, Chevron Oronite's Americas Regional Manager.

"Along with financially supporting our SALT program, this contribution will also support our Senior Watch program, which has now merged with the SALT program," said Jenkins. "SALT will continue to hold quarterly seminars to inform and educate our local seniors while the Senior Watch affords us the opportunity to frequently visit Plaquemines Parish senior citizens who may not have nearby friends or family to check on their welfare."

"Senior citizens are the backbone of our community and it's imperative we protect them and provide the necessary tools to succeed," said Sheriff Turlich. "We are extremely grateful of our partnership with Chevron Oronite and this generous donation will be instrumental in supporting and educating our senior citizen population."

The PPSO SALT Program launched in May of 2017 and focuses on communication and education between the seniors of our community and the sheriff's office addressing issues such as - Legal issues, Health issues, Financial issues, Power of Attorney, Elder Abuse, Fraud Prevention and many more. If you would like more information regarding the SALT Program or Senior Watch, please contact Program Director Glenda Jenkins at gjenkins@ppso.net.
