For Immediate Release

Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announces the arrest of Shane Hill, 51, of Buras on the charges of Threatening a Public Official or Law Enforcement Officer, Illegal Carrying of a Firearm, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and two (2) counts of Possession of Stolen Property.

After investigating Hill for issuing numerous public threats of violence against a targeted deputy of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO), detectives with the Investigations Bureau along with members of the Drug Interdiction Crime Enforcement (DICE) Unit and District II Patrol Division served an arrest and search warrant at Hill's residence. PPSO Detectives apprehended and arrested Hill without incident and the execution of the search warrant yielded the discovery of an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, various items associated with illegal drug activity and a 9mm handgun. PPSO Detectives also located several items in the residence that was previously reported stolen in multiple burglaries in the Buras area and the Empire Boat Harbor.

"Directing serious bodily harm and death threats at members of the sheriff's office will be taken seriously, investigated thoroughly and will not be tolerated," said Sheriff Turlich. "Along with being charged for making credible threats against a law enforcement officer, we were able to seize illegal narcotics and a firearm while recovering property from multiple burglaries. Great work from all the divisions involved in this case."

With the investigation ongoing, Hill is linked to multiple burglaries in the Buras and Empire areas. Hill is currently confined at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center on a $26,500 bond. If you have any additional information regarding burglaries or thefts in these areas, you can contact the PPSO Investigations Bureau at 504-934-6820.
